Tis October and this month we aim to bring you unique, off-the-hypermedia radar for a fun time without the crazy crowds for a memorable experience. From kite festivals, to a modern twist on iconic ballet, to a fire festival in beautiful park, to my favorite--a Boob Bonanza. Of course this last one is all about breast cancer awareness. Most events are free. Read on to plan your month especially weekend of October 21-22 is a busy weekend with multiple events!

FABLES & FAIRYTALES, Oct 14, Miami History Museum

It's a free family day where children and families unveil countless dark secrets and come face to face with some of the most magnificent monsters and legendary beasts ever to walk the earth. Discover the world of colossal krakens, mysterious dragons, and enchanting unicorns with activities for all.

Oktoberfest

OKTOBERFEST, Oct 13-15, Oct 20-22, Kendall (West Miami)

Enjoy Miami’s fall weather with cold beer at Oktoberfest Miami in Kendall. Florida’s longest-running Oktoberfest features German beer, bratwurst, schnitzel, and pretzels. There are stein-holding contests, German folk dancing, magic shows, bounce houses, and live music.

Kite Festival Miami

SKYWARD KITE FESTIVAL, Oct 21-22, Haulover Park (North Miami)

This event is from 11am-6pm. The sky over Miami's Haulover Park will be filled with hundreds of colorful kites including dozens of giant show kites during the 31st Annual Kite Festival!
10800 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33154.

It is the biggest kiting event in Florida. Expect to see GIANT whale's, the 100-foot flying octopus and cuttlefish, the 30-foot flying Astronaut, the 300 sq foot parafoils, the 100 foot flying Stingray's and more!

Guests are encourage to make their kites in their traditional styles from countries they may want to represent and fly them! In years past traditional kites were flown from the Bahamas, China, Colombia, Jamaica, Trinidad, Peru, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and many more. It is a fantastic way to celebrate the unique diversity of cultures that South Florida has.

Admission is free and parking is $7 per car and fills up early so PLEASE CARPOOL if you can.
Heavy Traffic is to be expected.

MIAMI CITY BALLET, Fall Mix Opens Oct 20-22, Miami Arsht Center

Includes Free Pre Performance Talk with Artists

The season open with a magnificent classic focused on passion filled movement and a new piece by a Miami native artist. Plus a wonderful bonus.

Join free pre-performance talks with MCB’s artistic team. These insightful conversations begin one hour prior to curtain before each performance except on opening nights.

Fire festival safety


FIREFEST Oct 21, 1pm-9pm, Jonathan Dickinson State Park (Jupiter, FL)

Escape the city and head north for 1.5 hours to the state park outside of Jupiter, Florida. The FireFest is a fall community family event to celebrate Florida's relationship with fire. 

Learn about the importance of prescribed fire (controlled burns), safety awareness, and how important fire truly is to our local wildlife and community.

The day is filled with live fire demos, hayrides, swamp buggy tours through the park, pumpkin patches, campfires, food trucks, ghost tours, live music, meet Smokey Bear and wildland firefighters and much more!

Park admission is $6/vehicle (up to 8 people). Cash is recommended. Carpooling is recommended.
