Art Basel Miami Beach, 2007

For lovers of culture and art aficionados in South Florida, the first few days of December is like Christmas, blanketing the South Beach and neighboring areas with art pieces and exhibitions from the world's top galleries.

It's the 8th Annual Art Basel Miami Beach--the sister art show to the original Art Basel in Basel, Switzerland and considered the "Olympics of the Art World".

The main event occurs at the Miami Beach Convention Center with an entrance fee of $35 for a one day pass or $55 for two day pass. In just eight short years, the art show has expanded and the satellite events in the Design District and Wynwood are considered the best by locals, they're also free.

All the art work is for sale and range from $1,000 to as much as $14 million for a single piece of art. However, you don't have to be an art expert or recite from memorization your art history class notes to revel in the excitement. Art provokes thought, inspires imagination, shocks and delights the senses. All visitors are welcome to enjoy all that is art.

Wth 19 ancillary events, there's more to absorb than time permits. It's recommended to study the schedule and map your route by foot and auto.
