Miami Beach, is about the people, the places and the food. All three are in fierce competition all the time. From 5th Street to 15th Street is the famed Art Deco classic streamline buildings. Take the Delano Hotel, an exterior Art Deco Hotel in stark contrast with a remodeled interior. Glorified designer Philippe Starke was the hand and mind to redesign the interior, strip it of all the Art Deco classic and replaced with a timeless elegance--tall ceilings supported by wide, white circular columns and flanked by harlequin wood-paneled walls. Billowy sheer curtains from floor to ceiling softly scream "urban chic". It is one of the most visited and popular hotels in South Beach, for its design and designer, the five start restaurant (co-owned with Madonna) and the flock of celebrities and wanna-be noticed locals.
Until now, the neighborhoods, on the west end, receive less attention. The Mondrian recently opened its doors during the highly visible Art Basel exhibition. This sleeping beauty resides on the bay side instead of the overcrowded beachfront and is reawakened by the next generation leader in design, Dutch wonder, Marcel Wanders.
