Art Wynwood Launches in Miami

Saturday, February 18, 2012

Miami continues to grow and rival major cities for its realm of art. In this case, the Wynwood district, next door to the Design District (mid town Miami) and home to Art Basel in December, offers edgy art with urban vibe that echoes the neighborhood. This is not your grandmother's type of art.

This President's Day weekend, Art Wynwood launches its international contemporary art fair. There is a corridor of local video art, highlighting a medium that Miami artists do so well.

Wynwood Arts District Association is exhibiting a 360 degree view of the arts neighborhood, a panoramic photograph curved into a sphere. It shows the progression of mechanics found south on NW Second Avenue to the gallerists a few blocks north.

Over 50 galleries represented and includes both emerging and established artists.  General admission is $15 for the day.  So while Art Basel may have come gone, it's Christmas in February for art purveyors.
