2009 Winners: Sand Bar

You know you thought about it especially on those rough mornings--to go to work in pajamas. Well you're dream is closer than your teddy bear as the clock ticks for the annual Coconut Grove Bed Race this upcoming Labor Day weekend.

The racing tradition goes back 30 years. Teams consist of five members with four racers and one rider hitched to the headboard. Speed wins, of course, but additional awards will be given for theme, creativity and décor.

The bedlam begins September 3 (Saturday) with the Pajama Pub Crawl through participating bars and restaurants. The next day, September 4, is race day starting with Kids Storytelling Time, the Waiters/Waitresses Obstacle Course, a Pit Row Parade of decorated beds on display, and finally the 1/8th-mile madness through the heart of the Grove. Afterwards, merchants will host a post-race celebration with live music and interactive exhibits.

So if you ever wanted to live in the Flintstone age and start your engines with your bare feet--get in bed! Or next to it.

No time to nap or snooze! To register your team, visit www.TheGreatGroveBedRace.com for event details and even bed jokes!

And all the ensuing pillow-fighting leads to a good cause--the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade, call 305-446-9910 or visit http://www.bgcmia.org/.

See you in bed!

  1. That was nice, and great idea for races industry. So, it would be two days left for the race to begin. Good luck to all the participants and enjoy the race.
